ABOUT Shannon Tipton

I am the Chief Learning Rebel for my company Learning Rebels, LLC.

What does being a Learning Rebel mean? It means helping businesses and learning professionals see L&D from different perspectives, and providing a guiding hand to break out of the comfort of status-quo training. There are three key elements to being a Learning Rebel, a deep curiosity about the industry, having the strength to challenge status-quo, and have the courage of conviction to advocate for people within businesses. When these three things align, we create business value.

I have been in the industry for over 25 years, and have seen many shiny new tools and practices come and go. I remember being new to operational leadership and wondering if there were a better way to help people be smarter, better, faster — people shouldn’t have to struggle to do their jobs. This is when I knew that workplace learning was the career for me. I pride myself as being a skilled learning strategist, who can advocate for both people and business needs while building learning infrastructures and ecosystems for businesses across North America and Europe.

My main passion is working with people and organizations to develop learning solutions with sustainable value that truly align with business goals and needs. My past operational experiences allow me to bring real-world business expertise into the learning field, which in turn, helps me to bridge the divide between learning departments and business leaders. It is when we bridge this divide that we strengthen workplace alignment, enhance collaboration, and strengthen learning ecosystems. It’s not about continuous training, it’s about continuous learning.

As the author of “Disruptive Learning,” I frequently speak at conferences across North America and Europe. In 2019, I traveled enough to circle the globe 2.5 times, that’s a lot of people to meet and from which to learn! The people I meet along the way become my inspiration for discovery (and admittedly, feed my curious brain toward all things technology related). Opening up your network to different voices and opinions can only lead to better ideas, creativity, and innovation — which is what I am looking forward to the most with this series of MasterClasses.

I was honored to be named in the top 100 elearning “Movers and Shakers” in 2018 and 2019 by the eLearning Industry with my blog “Learning Rebels” being in the top 100 elearning blogs. These attributes are not mine alone, they are built with the support of others in the Learning Rebels network, as it truly takes a village to move the “workplace learning” needle. I look forward to working with everyone as we emerge from the ashes of 2020, and work with renewed passions and different points of view to make 2021 the year of providing business value.

I continue my work at Learning Rebels and you can follow me on LinkedIn.
